Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy any device to use Viewifi?
No. Viewifi uses the WiFi signal you already have at home. Any Android 8.0 phone or newer works as a sensor, and so does a Linux PC or a Raspberry Pi you already keep running.
Does WiFi motion detection work in the dark or through walls?
Yes. The system measures how a human body distorts WiFi radio waves, so it needs neither light nor line of sight. That is why it picks up movement in total darkness and on the other side of a wall.
Is Viewifi free?
Yes. Real-time detection, Telegram alerts and photo evidence are free forever on one host. The Pro plan, planned at $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year, adds unlimited hosts, audio evidence, cloud history and routine reports.
What does the Viewifi Pro plan include?
Unlimited hosts on one account, full evidence with photo, audio and 3D activity on every alert, unlimited cloud event history instead of 7 days on the device, daily digest and routine watch, protected schedules with multiple zones, and an unbranded, themeable web panel for the Linux host.
Why a subscription and not a one-time payment?
Because the value is continuous and so are the costs: keeping your history in the cloud and syncing between hosts is paid for every month. We would rather charge an honest low price than run ads or sell data, which is what other "free" security apps do. The yearly plan is 44% cheaper.
Does my data or audio leave my home?
Signal analysis happens entirely on the host device. Photo and audio capture are off by default and only run if you switch them on. Alerts go to your own Telegram bot, with your own token — we never see them.
Can I watch more than one place on the same account?
Yes. The free plan covers one host. With Pro you register as many host devices as you want under the same user and pick which one receives each command, or send it to all of them at once. For multiple sites with a central panel, see the Business plan.
Can I use a Raspberry Pi or a Linux PC as the sensor?
Yes. Viewifi Host for Linux is a single dependency-free executable for x86_64 PCs and ARM64 Raspberry Pi boards. You configure it from a web panel on port 8080 and it shares the same account and the same Telegram alerts as the app. It is MIT-licensed open source and will stay that way.
What exactly is the 3D activity view?
It is a three-dimensional timeline of detected activity, not a map of your home. The height of the surface is the signal intensity at each moment, so you can see at a glance when something moved and how strongly.
Does Viewifi show ads?
No, and it never will. A security app runs on trust. Viewifi is funded by the Pro plan and by business licences, never by ads or by selling data.
